River City Coffee
A Roaster We Trust
We first came across River City Coffee back in Christmas 2020, when we saw that they too had sourced from our favourite coffee producing region, the Rwenzori Mountains in Western Uganda. Years later, they are still supporting the farmers there, and work closely with the local area of Hull to supply delicious specialty coffee to coffee shops.
That kind of long-term, consistent farmer support is exactly what we look for in the independent UK roasters we feature in our specialty coffee subscription boxes. River City Coffee joins a growing list of roasters we're proud to champion through RISE.
Rwenzori
Hand picked and sorted, only the ripe coffee cherries make it to the Rwenzori wash plant, where the coffee is wet milled and left to sun dry. This process allows some of the remaining coffee cherry mucilage to impart further moisture and acids into the beans than standard natural processing, and sets this origin apart from any other we've ever encountered.
We had to tear up the roasting rule book with this coffee and start again from scratch due to its unique freshness, moisture content and sugar availability. The result is a boozy strawberry celebration of exploding summer fruits, delivered with a caramel sweetness. Perfect for filter or pour over, but also a unique and rewarding experience on espresso when dialled in right.
Try this as a filter and you'll get the sweetest strawberry notes coming through.
Coffees like this are exactly why RISE Coffee Box exists. Every month, we blind taste 25-30 coffees from independent specialty coffee roasters across the UK – from Hull favourites like River City Coffee to standout names we've discovered along the way – and choose only the very best to feature in our coffee subscription boxes. If you love discovering new specialty coffee, sustainably sourced and roasted by people who genuinely care about where it comes from, a RISE coffee subscription is the easiest way to explore it all from home.
