Today's coffee, Day 13 of Advent, a Scandinavian festivity inspired coffee roasted by Danelaw Coffee
The Roaster:
Danelaw Coffee has a majorly impressive CV when it comes to coffee! The founder David is a 2-time UK Coffee in Good Spirits Champion, a Q grader (licensed professional coffee taster) and is a frequent judge of World Barista Championships. He's been working in coffee for over 16 years and his passion and enthusiasm is off the charts! The name Danelaw links back to the area that David grew up in (Yorkshire and Lincolnshire), and is the 9th century name for this part of the world. It represents his connection to the farmers and local produce in this area, which David is so proud of.
Coffee Name:
Santa Lucia, Christmas Blend
Origin:
Colombia, Kenya and Mexico
Altitude:
Unknown
Process:
Natural
Tasting notes:
These are naturally processed coffees from Mexico and Colombia for body, spice, dried fruit flavours and a boozy finish.
There’s also some washed Kenya in there for bright, berry notes.
Roast Level:
Medium
Roaster's note:
The natural process coffees bring sweetness, body and booziness to the blend, with the washed coffees bringing the brightness, orange and berry flavours.
Brewing Tips:
This can make a great espresso as a base for flat whites or lattes, but my favourite way to enjoy this coffee is brewed as a filter coffee.
Enjoyed black, it makes me think of Christmas, and when I feel REALLY decadent, a dollop of Brandy cream stirred in, sitting in front of the fire with the fairy lights twinkling and Bing Crosby on the playlist is the perfect way to close out the day.
And with the addition of a sherry cask whisky, this is a divine Irish coffee too…
