Machina coffee
A Roaster We Trust
Machina is one of Edinburgh's leading roasteries, and we've been cupping their coffee for the last year with the view to getting them in the box. Having founded in 2013, Machina has grown steadily and is proud to offer "something for everyone" when it comes to their coffee range.
That patient, deliberate approach to building a relationship before featuring a roaster is exactly how we like to work at RISE. Machina joins a growing list of independent UK roasters we're proud to champion in our specialty coffee subscription boxes.
Machina Coffee Karambi, Uganda
This coffee is pretty special, as it comes from RISE's favourite coffee growing area, the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda. Many of you will know that our first Friendly Coffee Fund project directly supports these farmers by helping send their children to school. This coffee is grown by smallholder farmers at high altitude, and is naturally processed from being dried in the sun. It's a well-rounded and balanced coffee, full bodied and sweet with a mild acidity.
This coffee has been roasted in a way that brings through the dark chocolate notes when served as a black or white espresso. It will also brew beautifully with a cafetiere or moka pot. When brewed as a filter coffee, you'll taste the plum and fruitier notes.
Coffees like this are exactly why RISE Coffee Box exists. Every month, we blind taste 25-30 coffees from independent specialty coffee roasters across the UK – from Edinburgh favourites like Machina to standout names we've discovered along the way – and choose only the very best to feature in our coffee subscription boxes. If you love discovering new specialty coffee, sustainably sourced and roasted by people who genuinely care about where it comes from, a RISE coffee subscription is the easiest way to explore it all from home.
