About the JAVA French Press Coffee Maker
If you want proof that simple brewing can still taste incredible, this is it. Bodum's JAVA French press is a genuine classic — coffee lovers everywhere swear by it, and once you've used one you'll see why. It's got that lovely retro look, but everything about how it actually brews is properly modern, turning coarsely ground beans and hot water into a rich, full-flavoured cup in just a few minutes.
The carafe is made from borosilicate glass, so it never taints or dulls the taste of your coffee, and it's wrapped in a sturdy, lightweight plastic frame that protects the glass while keeping things comfortable to hold. It's a lovely example of Bodum's whole philosophy — that good design doesn't need to cost the earth. It's kinder to the planet too, since there's no need for paper filters or plastic pods.
Why We Love It:
Brings out the full flavour and aroma of your coffee, the way a proper French press should. The heat-resistant borosilicate glass won't stain or affect the taste. A durable, lightweight plastic frame keeps the glass protected and comfortable to use. The stainless steel plunger keeps every last ground bean out of your cup. No paper filters or capsules needed, so it's a more sustainable way to brew. Genuinely easy to use and just as easy to clean.
How to Brew:
Sit the JAVA on a flat surface, hold the handle steady, and lift the plunger out of the carafe. Add one rounded teaspoon (or a Bodum scoop) of coarsely ground coffee per cup/4oz of water. Pour in hot water — around 92-96°C — leaving about 2.5cm at the top, and give it a stir with a wooden or plastic spoon. Pop the plunger unit back on and turn the lid so the spout is closed, to keep the heat in. Let it brew for 4 minutes, then slowly press the plunger down. Turn the lid to open the spout, and pour yourself a properly good cup of coffee. Before first use, give it a wash in warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly — after that, every part is dishwasher safe.
