June’s box is no exception. This month, we feature Old Spike Coffee from London and Coffee Factory from Devon, with standout coffees sourced from Indonesia and Ethiopia. 🌍 Roaster 1: Old Spike Coffee – London

Coffee with Purpose

Founded in 2015, Old Spike Coffee is more than just a specialty coffee roaster - it's a social enterprise on a mission. Based in Peckham, London, Old Spike is one of the UK's first roasters to place social impact at the heart of its business. An impressive 65% of their profits go toward supporting people affected by homelessness through training, employment, and housing support.

Their coffee philosophy is simple: quality meets compassion. Sourcing beans through direct trade relationships ensures farmers receive well above market price, and their focus on seasonality means you get only the freshest beans roasted to perfection.

☕ June's Coffee: Permata Gayo, Indonesia

• Region: Gayo Highlands, Sumatra

• Process: Washed (wet hulling)

• Tasting notes: Dry Fig, Grapefruit, Walnuts

• Altitude: 1100–1600 MASL

• Roast: Medium

The beans come from the Permata Gayo cooperative, established in 2006 after civil conflict had devastated farming communities. Now boasting over 2,000 members, the co-op is Fairtrade, Organic, and Rainforest Alliance certified. Fairtrade premiums have funded 24 impactful community projects, from coffee nurseries to traditional Saman dance preservation.

🌄 Roaster 2: Coffee Factory – Devon

From Aussie Adventures to Devon Roasting

What started as a post-Australia adventure side hustle turned into one of the UK’s most respected family-run coffee roasters. Coffee Factory was founded in Axminster by husband-and-wife duo Danny and Ali, and it now operates out of a rural roastery on the Devon–Dorset border.

Their secret weapon? Dorothy, a lovingly restored 1950s Probat roaster fitted with modern tech for ultimate roast control. For smaller lots and experiments, she’s joined by Penny, the petite vintage sibling. With full traceability and ethical sourcing at its core, every batch is roasted in-house with obsession-level attention to detail.

Coffee aficionados rave about Coffee Factory's consistency and transparency. “Every bag tells a story,” said one long-time subscriber, “and tastes even better than the last.” This is the first time we have featured them, and super excited about this Ethiopian coffee. 

☕ June's Coffee: Yirgacheffe Idido, Ethiopia

• Region: Gedeo Zone, Southern Ethiopia

• Process: Washed

• Tasting notes: Milk Chocolate, Cranberry, Bergamot

• Altitude: 1900–2200 MASL

• Roast: Medium

This single-origin gem is grown by smallholders who use traditional, organic methods. Handpicked cherries are processed at the Idido washing station, where careful fermentation and drying techniques unlock the coffee’s vibrant character.

☕ Decaf from Coffee Factory: Lala Salama, Uganda

• Process: CO₂ Decaf (gentle and chemical-free)

• Tasting notes: Chocolate, Almond, Lemon Peel

• Name meaning: "Sleep well" in Swahili

Sourced through Uganda’s Coffee Gardens project, Lala Salama supports small farmers in the Rwenzori Mountains - the same region supported by our Friendly Coffee Fund.
