Q&A WITH RICH A RISE MEMBER

☕ Meet Rich. An original RISE coffee box member with over 50 boxes! 

When we think about long-time RISE legends, Rich is one of the first names that comes to mind. An OG RISE subscriber with 56 orders and counting, Rich has sipped his way through an impressive 112 different coffees with us - that’s around 1,680 cups (and probably a few more while answering this Q&A!).

Over the years, Rich has been an amazing supporter of what we do – regularly chatting with Alice and me, sharing feedback, offering ideas, and always reminding us why we do what we do. So we caught up with him to chat all things coffee, from his favourite brews to top tips…

☕ Favourite coffee from RISE (of all time?)
There have been so many! My all-time favourite was MINDBLOWN by Unorthodox Roasters – it was the most complex coffee I’ve ever had and completely unique. Absolutely exceptional. Shout out to Skylark Coffee too - their Ethiopia Acacia Natural was a standout for me, full of crazy good flavours.

🫖 How do you brew your coffee?
Mostly with a Hario V60 Decanter. I always drink my coffee black, and I love how the V60 brews such a clean cup. It really brings out and highlights the individual flavours of the coffee.

❤️ What do you love most about RISE?
I love the variety most of all each month brings a completely different coffee from some of the best independent roasters in the UK. They’re meticulously curated and consistently exceptional, with unique packaging and design that reflect each roaster’s personality. It all adds to the experience, and you’re guaranteed an excellent cup every morning with RISE.

But it’s not just about the coffee it’s about the people and the stories behind it. Learning about the roasters, their journey, and even the farmers at the very start of the process makes it all feel personal and meaningful. Supporting both ends of that chain is something I really value.

💡 Top coffee tip?
Have fun with the brewing and watch YouTube videos, experiment, and turn it into a passion.
Oh, and if you’re using a V60, always buy the original Japanese filter papers. It makes a huge difference. The ones made in the Netherlands can give the coffee a perfumed taste. Trust me!

🎉 Fun fact?
I’ve kept just about every monthly “This Month’s Coffee” leaflet from RISE. It was actually really fun going back through them while answering this Q&A!
