Day 9: Kenya – Advent Calendar Reveal
Origin: Kenya
Location: Nyeri
Altitude: 1,750 masl
Tasting notes: Floral, Nectarine and Caramel
Why Alice and Ben love it: Grown by smallholder farmers in the lush Central Highlands of Kenya, this coffee is a shining example of the country’s legendary coffee heritage. The farms stretch across the Nyeri County, near the Aberdare mountain range and Mount Kenya, where cool mountain air, rich volcanic soil, and steady rainfall create the perfect environment for exceptional coffee.
This coffee comes mainly from the Tambaya Coffee Factory on the Gura River, where cherries are handpicked and washed the same day to preserve their bright, clean flavour. They then go through the traditional “Kenyan style” process, where the beans are soaked in water for up to 16 hours to enhance clarity and bring out a vibrant acidity, before being dried under the sun.
This coffee is full of bright, floral and fruity flavours with a smooth, juicy feel and a clean, refreshing finish. It’s rich, delicious, and a great example of the high-quality coffee grown in Kenya’s highlands.
