Why Alice and Ben love it: Not many people have tried coffee from Cuba, but it has a long and fascinating history. Coffee arrived in the 1700s with French settlers from Haiti and quickly became one of the island’s main exports. The Sierra Maestra and Sierra Cristal mountains in eastern Cuba offer rich volcanic soil and a cool, misty climate - perfect for growing smooth, flavourful Arabica beans.
After production declined in the 1950s, projects like BioCubaCafé have worked to revive Cuba’s coffee heritage through organic, shade-grown, and sustainable farming. Grown under native trees by smallholder farmers, this coffee protects both flavour and the environment.
BioCubaCafé is also the first Cuban coffee brand to use blockchain technology for full traceability, ensuring every bean can be tracked from farm to cup. Pretty cool! The result is a sweet, clean, and balanced coffee that tells a story of community, innovation, and resilience... a true taste of Cuba’s comeback!
