Day 14: Nicaragua – Advent Calendar Reveal
Origin: Nicaragua
Location: Jinotega
Altitude: 1,050 to 1,450 masl
Tasting notes: Milk chocolate, Almond, Caramel
Why Alice and Ben love it: This coffee from the 'La Bastilla' farm is a stunning example of Nicaragua’s growing reputation for high-quality, ethically produced coffee. It is a “natural” processed coffee which means the cherries have been laid out in the sun to dry before being processed - this gives it a super fruity sweetness which we love. It’s also a Rainforest Alliance-certified coffee.
The area of Jinotega is nicknamed “La Ciudad de las Brumas” which means 'The City of Mists' because its coffee farms sit so high in the mountains that they’re often wrapped in clouds. That cool, misty climate is one of the reasons Jinotega produces some of Nicaragua’s best-tasting coffee.
