Day 11: Papua New Guinea – Advent Calendar Reveal
Origin: Papua New Guinea
Location: Mount Hagen
Altitude: 1,900 masl
Tasting notes: Red wine, Spiced plum and Zesty citrus peel
Why Alice and Ben love it: Day 11 of the RISE Coffee Countdown Calendar takes us to the lush highlands of Papua New Guinea, where the Mount Hagen coffee delivers a truly special cup. We featured this coffee last year, and after hearing your amazing feedback we just had to feature it again!
Grown at 1,900 metres above sea level, this “Arabica Bourbon” variety of coffee is dried in the sun to bring out an exceptional sweetness and depth. With tasting notes of citrus, spiced plum, and red wine, it’s a coffee that tastes bright and feels indulgent - perfect for a mid-morning treat or an afternoon pick-me-up.
We love this coffee because it represents everything that makes RISE so exciting — discovery, diversity, and ethical sourcing. Only 1% of the world’s coffee comes from Papua New Guinea, yet it’s some of the most intriguing around.
Mount Hagen coffee comes with real meaning. In Papua New Guinea, more than 40% of people rely on coffee to support their families - from growing the beans to getting them ready for export. Every sip helps sustain families and communities based in these highlands.
