Day 4: Honduras – Advent Calendar Reveal
Origin: Honduras
Location: Antigua
Altitude: 1,400+ meters above sea level
Tasting notes: Chocolate and Orange
Why Alice and Ben love it: This Honduran coffee is grown at elevations above 1,400 meters, where cooler temperatures slow cherry ripening (the cherry is the fruit that houses the coffee bean inside!) and helps the beans to develop exceptional sweetness and complexity. The result is a beautifully balanced cup with a fruity fragrance, bright acidity and a velvety-smooth finish.
Honduras boasts some of Central America’s best coffee-growing conditions: fertile volcanic soil, reliable rainfall, and a mountainous terrain. While it produces a range of coffee qualities, it’s the 'Strictly High Grown' (SHG) coffee, also known as “Strictly Hard Bean”, that truly stands out. Sourced through trusted cooperatives committed to sustainable, traditional farming, this coffee reflects both quality and care.
If you’ve ever wondered what coffee looks like before it becomes beans, espresso, flat whites or filter brews, you’re not alone. Many people are surprised to learn that coffee actually starts life as a fruit and a lot of people actually have no idea where it even comes from...well, it's a small, bright red berry known as a coffee cherry.
