Day 12: Peru – Advent Calendar Reveal
Origin: Peru
Location: Cajamarca
Altitude: 1,000 masl
Tasting notes: Caramel, Dark Cocoa
Why Alice and Ben love it: We love this coffee because it comes from the 'CENFROCAFE' cooperative, founded in 1999, which unites smallholder farmers dedicated to quality, sustainability, and community development. Beyond producing outstanding coffee, CENFROCAFE provides technical training, quality workshops, and leadership programmes for young people, as well as loans to help farmers cover harvest costs and send their children to school. Each farmer carefully tends their 3–5 hectare farms, selecting only the best seedlings and handling every stage of coffee farming with precision.
Cajamarca coffee is beautifully diverse. While you’ll find the classic Peruvian notes of caramel and cocoa, the region’s unique microclimates add layers of dark fruit and deep sweetness, creating a rich, full-bodied cup with a delicate, mouth-watering finish. It’s a perfect example of how thoughtful farming and vibrant terroir combine to create coffee that’s both ethically sourced and irresistibly delicious.
Fun fact — much of Peru’s specialty coffee makes its debut voyage on a donkey decked out in brightly coloured woven blankets. These stylish donkeys are the most reliable couriers for navigating the steep mountain paths.
