Day 10: Brazil Mogiana – Advent Calendar Reveal
Origin: Brazil
Location: Mogiana
Altitude: 900 - 1,200 masl
Tasting notes: Chocolate, Caramel, Nut
Why Alice and Ben love it: The Mogiana region stretches across northern São Paulo and into Minas Gerais. It is one of Brazil’s oldest and most beloved coffee-growing areas. Rooted in rich coffee history, this region once thrived around the Companhia Mogiana railway, which carried beans from inland farms to the ports.
The Mogiana area is split into two parts: Alta Mogiana (higher up) and Média Mogiana (lower down). The Alta Mogiana coffees tend to taste brighter and fresher, with hints of fruity sweetness and caramel, and they feel smooth in the mouth. Média Mogiana coffees usually taste more chocolatey and nutty, with a gentle acidity - making them great for comforting, everyday cups. This coffee is a delicious blend of the two.
There’s something beautifully honest about Brazilian coffee from this region. Grown on farms ranging from 15 to 500 hectares, these coffees are often cultivated under challenging conditions with minimal irrigation and little shade, but still deliver remarkable quality.
Whether you’re new to specialty coffee or a seasoned sipper, Mogiana offers a dependable, delicious, and welcoming cup. It's the kind of coffee we reach for when we want something comforting, sweet, and easy to fall in love with again and again.
